This book was formed from the Prince Consort Prize Essay for 1934. Covering various aspects of the Dissenter movement between 1763 and 1800, it was 'designed partly as a study of a phase in the history of English opinion in the eighteenth century, and partly as an essay upon the evolution of certain political ideas in England.'
