Photoionization of Polyvalent Ions
The effect of polyvalent dopants on photoinduced defect formation was studied in different glasses. Ionisation of the glass matrix results in intrinsic defects, positively charged hole and negatively charged electron centres. Polyvalent dopants can be photooxidised or photoreduced.
