This is the first detailed record of the early history of Emmanuel College, Cambridge, from its foundation to the completion of the seventh major inventory of the library's contents in 1637. The dramatic expansion of the library during this period shows the intellectual resources available to the Emmanuel men who subsequently held great influence in the New World and during the English Civil War.
