Examines post-independence Argentinian instability and political struggle from the perspective of rural lower classes. Exploring 19th-century society, culture, and politics in the Argentine interior, this book departs from the predominant Buenos Aires-centered historiography to analyse this period in the processes of state- and nation-building.
