Common Law, History, and Democracy in America, 1790-1900

This book argues for a change in our understanding of the historical relationships among law, politics and history. Through an examination of the writings of nineteenth-century historical, political and legal thinkers, Kunal M. Parker shows that the common law was seen as a better means of realizing the logic of history than democracy.
